Why platforms ask for a driving record
Rideshare and delivery companies carry commercial insurance on every active driver, and their insurers price that exposure against driving history. Screening the record is how a platform manages that risk before letting somebody carry passengers or operate on its behalf.
That is why the request is non-negotiable and why it recurs. Your account is not simply approved once, platforms re-screen drivers periodically, and an updated record is often part of that.
What the platform is reading
Screening criteria differ between companies and change over time, but the elements they consistently look at are the ones an Ontario driver abstract sets out:

- Recent convictions: particularly serious moving violations.
- Suspensions: any period the licence was not valid.

Timing: the mistake that costs people a week
The single most common problem in rideshare onboarding is a record that is technically correct but too old. Applicants gather documents over several weeks, and by the time everything else is ready the abstract has aged past the platform’s window.
The practical approach is to leave the driving record until last. Get your vehicle inspection, insurance and identification sorted first, then order the 3-year driver abstract online once you are actually ready to submit. It arrives within minutes, so there is no advantage to ordering it early and a real risk in doing so.
What to do if your record is not clean
Ordering your own record before you apply is worth doing precisely because it removes the guesswork. Drivers are frequently wrong about what is on their record, convictions they had forgotten, or equally, points they assumed were still there that have since expired.

Platforms accept a PDF upload, which is exactly what you receive. There is no need to print, sign, scan or have anything witnessed, forward or upload the file as it arrives.
Keep the original email. If a platform later queries the document or you apply to a second one, having the untouched PDF saves ordering again.
