The short answer
The commonly requested driver abstract is an uncertified 3-year driver record. It provides a recent snapshot rather than a complete lifetime history. The document is commonly used for employment, insurance-related requests, commercial or volunteer driving, and personal record keeping.
Information commonly included
- Driver’s name and licence number
- Licence status, class and expiry date
- Demerit point total
- Conditions or restrictions shown on the licence
- Relevant convictions from the previous three years
- Suspensions and reinstatements from the previous three years
The contents depend on the individual record. A blank section does not necessarily mean information is missing.
What a 3-year abstract is not
It is not a collision report, insurance claims history, complete lifetime driving history, or proof of every licensing date. It also is not automatically interchangeable with a certified record or a driver’s licence history.
Certified and uncertified records

How to avoid ordering the wrong record
- Ask the requesting person for the exact document name.
- Confirm whether it must be certified.
- Confirm how recent the record must be.
- Check whether they need recent driving activity or licensing history.
- Keep the PDF private because it contains personal information.
